Baka To Test To Shoukanjuu – Episode 8

Kouta Tsuchiya commands you….ERASE HIM!!!

Yes Master…All Hail Kouta!

Baka and Geass and Evangelion
Coming to a theatre near you…

After being insulted by Yoshii, over a photograph he has of her, Minami requests an ESB battle against him to set him straight. However Yoshii is unable to summon his being into the battle and the supervising teacher loses control of the ESB field.

The cause of the of the malfunction is the result of an earlier incident where an intruder attempts to hijack the school mainframe and ends up tripping over and disconnecting a wire in the server room.

As a result of this malfunction, various odd things happen to the students’ summoned beings, such as being appearing in adult form. The effects of the malfunction seem to affect Yoshii differently as his type of being is different to the others.

Adult Yuuji

Word of this malfunction reaches the principal of the school, and after a meeting with the upper-level members of the school, they commence an operation to gain access to the server room and reconnect the wire. Yoshii is the only person capable of doing this task as he is the only one who is able to call forth an ESB field at will with the bracelet he found (check back to episode 2).  He has to use his summoned being to travel through the school’s ventilation system to reach the server room. He is provided with a camera and transmitter by Kouta to allow him to guide his being through the vents.

And so begins the operation. Yoshii travels through the vents, experiencing the various forms of security that are employed within the vent, such as a poison swamp (yeah…seriously). Just as he is about to reach the server room, he is attacked by the berserk beings of his friends who attack and defeat Yoshii’s being. As always, Yoshii is taken away by Mr. Nishizawa for supplementary lessons (yes, even in this time of desperation, students who were killed in action must take supplementary lessons).

After returning from his lessons, the group decide that Yoshii will need to increase his power level in order to be able to survive and the only way he’ll be able to do that is to take the supplementary tests. Yuuji comes up with the idea to give Yoshii easy questions that he’ll be able to answer. This stroke of genius results in Yoshii raising his power to a ridiculously high level.

With his new power, Yoshii once again travels through the vents to the server room.  He once again encounters the berserk beings but is able to beat them this time around effortlessly.

He reaches the server room and is about to reconnect the wire, he is stopped by Minami, who is shortly joined by Mizuki, who traps Yoshii and slowly deplete his points.

He manages to catch a break when Minami is interrupted by Miharu. Yoshii uses the confusion to break free and cause Mizuki to defeat Minami and Miharu’s beings. Yoshii attacks Mizuki, who rapidly loses points as a result. But before, she loses all her points, she gets back up and transforms into a more powerful being and retaliates against Yoshii, who nearly loses all of his points.

But despite everyone’s pleas to run away, Yoshii decides to stay and continue to fight. He tells Mizuki to take the supplementary test. Realizing what she needs to do, she takes the test and scores zero, allowing Yoshii to beat her being and re-connect the wire; allowing the principal to gain access to the server room and fix the ESB system.

Ok…now I know that this episode is clearly a parody of Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I still didn’t find it all that good. That could be because at times I couldn’t actually figure out what parts of Evangelion they were parodying. Maybe I should go back and re-watch Evangelion. Clearly, Yoshii was meant to be Shinji and the president was supposed to be Shinji’s dad, Genji (that was his name, right?) Gendou (thanks to Alexeon, for correcting me), and I’m sure I remember what episode they are trying to parody. At least I think I do.

But I don’t know…I didn’t find it all that funny. One thing I did find funny was the adult versions of the group’s summons and the whole Yuuji/Kouta love scene, as well as Shouko’s reaction.

I wanna see more of Yuuji and Shouko! Their relationship is great! And I wanna see more ESB battles between classes. Class F need to get their broken tables and crappy cushions back!

Oh well, let’s wait and see what happens in the next episode…

Can I just make a quick comment and say that getting screenshots for this series is ANNOYING AS HELL!! My screenshot software doesn’t want to let me scan through the episode. In fact, every time I try to scan through it, it kicks me right back to the beginning of the episode. So I’m forced to use Media Player Classic’s screenshot function…and I can’t really say that’s great either! -_- …sorry for the off-topic rant…

  • Alexeon:

This episode was hilarious. I loved all the references like the Nerv logo that said Baka rather than Nerv.

Just wanted to point out that Shinji’s dad in Evangelion is called Gendou. Thats all.

    • Oh yeah! I remember now!

It’s been a while since I watched that anime last! Thanks for the refresher! =P

And thanks for your comment! =)
